This plugin exports skeletal based character models and their animations from Max into cal3d files.

Cal3d is a skeletal based 3D character animation library written in C++ in a platform-/graphic API-independent way. Originally designed to be used in a 3D client for Worldforge, it evolved into a stand-alone product which can be used in many different kinds of projects.

This version of the plugin was recompiled for Max 9 (32-bit and 64-bit) by Stjepan Stamenkovic from the Open Outcast project.

Panda DX Exporter gives Max users the ability to export to .X files with as much information as possible about the objects in a scene. Because it uses the Max internal structures it can retrieve all the information available and is not limited by the export to a 3DS file.

Supported features include:
- Mesh vertices
- Mesh normals (optimized list)
- Mesh material list
- Mesh texture coordinates
- Mesh faces
- Vertex colours - if they are set in Max
- Materials (uses [Standard] Max diffuse map as DX texture map)
- Material textures - bitmap conversions to .bmp, .jpg, .png and .tga
- Text/Binary Mode/Compressed X file
- X File frames - with full hierarchy
- Animation
- Skinning using CS Physique and Max bones/skinning (not Biped)
- Left handed axis conversion

This version of the plugin requires the August 2008 Direct SDK to be installed before it will operate.

This plugin enables import of Stanford PLY models into Max, handling both Binary and ASCII PLY types. Unlike the PLY import plugin from HabWare for Max 8, the memory leaks have been fixed and now several hundred PLY files can be imported at a time without incident.

Exports Max scenes to source reference and animation sequence SMD files for use with Half-Life 2. It supports standard and multi/sub-object materials, editable mesh and editable poly geometry, skin and physique modifiers and, when using skin, using helper nodes such as dummies as bones. Also allows exporting a sub-range of an animation and exporting the sequence backwards.
